Most fire-prone places in the Philippines

Metro Manila is the most fire-prone place in the Philippines. Here, the peak fire season typically begins in mid-October and lasts around 24 weeks. Between July 2019 and July 2022, Metro Manila experienced a total of 386 fire alerts.

The regions outside the National Capital Region (NCR) that historically had the most number of fire alerts/incidents are:
• Central Visayas (Region 7
• Calabarzon (Region 4A)
• Western Visayas (Region 6)
• Davao Region (Region 11)
• Central Luzon (Region 3)
• Northern Mindanao (Region 10)
• Ilocos Region (Region 1)
• Bicol (Region 5)
• Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9)

Central Visayas saw at least 857 fires in 2021 with a total amount of damage of more than P320 million. There were fewer fires in 2021 in the region compared to 2020, which saw 918 fires. However, the total amount of damage in 2020 was lower at P231.3 million.

Cebu, Mandaue, and Dumaguete reported the most fire incidents in Central Visayas for 2020 and 2021. In Cebu, firefighters responded to a total of 203 fire incidents in 2021, with December having the most incidents at 37. In the past three years, the most number of fires happened outside March: 73 in April 2019; 24 in January 2020; and 37 in December 2021. August was the deadliest month in Cebu City when it came to fire incidents in 2021 as it saw seven deaths.
