We would like to share some fire safety tips to make your Christmas and New Year fun and worry-free.
- Check your Christmas lights carefully.
Defective and low-quality Christmas lights can cause fires. Check your old lights thoroughly and make sure there are no exposed wires that could be a source of fire. Also, make sure the Christmas lights you buy have Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers that pass safety inspection and standards.
- Don’t leave your Christmas lights turned on overnight.
Christmas Lights or lanterns are more likely to explode or overheat if they are left turned on overnight, so turn them off before going to bed. Don’t leave Christmas lights turned on when you leave your house.
- Don’t place your Christmas lights near flammable objects.
Curtains, beds, and books are just some flammable materials. They ignite easily, with fire quickly spreading in an area.
- Don’t plug multiple Christmas lights in one outlet.
Outlets and extension cords tend to overheat and overload if too many lights and appliances are plugged altogether in one outlet.
- Put handy fire extinguishers inside your house.
Have fire extinguishers in different places in your house and train family members how to properly use them.
- Check your LPG tanks regularly.
Regularly checking LPG tanks, hoses, and regulators can also avoid fires and accidents. Replace old ones to avoid leaks that can cause explosions.
- Unplug appliances when leaving your house.
If your family leaves home or goes on vacation, always make sure no appliances are left plugged in. As much as possible, turn off the lights inside the house, except for one or two lights outside the house for security purposes.
- In case of fire, go out immediately and get help.
Make sure the whole family knows the emergency hotline numbers to call in case of fire.
May you have a safe and fire-free holiday season!
